EmployABILITY Champion: PF Industries

PF Industries provides affordable, on-time, small-package delivery service for customers in Southern California. Owner and operator Aaron Glass, Jr. took time to talk with us to celebrate his business's new status as an EmployABILITY Champion and learn what that means to him.

How did you start your business?

I started in 2015 with three trucks. There is a lot of competition in this industry, but we were able to succeed because we offer reliable and affordable service. We’ve been growing steadily, and we need to hire more employees. This grant is going to help us with that, though!

How do you think the EmployABILITY Business Grant will affect your business in the next year?

The grant is going to help break down some barriers for us as a business and for our new employees. We’ve been having trouble keeping employees and being able to offer an insurance benefit will make us a more attractive employer. Paying for insurance cuts into operating costs and profits. We can pay salaries, but everything else is out of reach. The grant is giving us a hand up, and we plan to keep that momentum. We can now capture more opportunities, take on more accounts, and hire more employees.

How do you plan to use the EmployAbility Business Grant funds?

Besides paying for insurance, we’ll also be purchasing equipment that will be accessible for individuals with disabilities – things like better GPS and new laptops that will be used for driver simulation training. We’ll also be using a little for uniform shirts for the new employees.

What does it mean to you to be a recipient of this grant, an EmployABILITY Champion?

Receiving this grant is personal. All of us deserve a chance to go out and show the world what we can do. Most of the time, the barrier to doing that isn’t the individual or the company, but the financial issue. With this grant, I can offer more opportunities and am so grateful for that.
